Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Government intends to build an economy that can create employment opportunities and promote food security, says Boteti West MP and Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Tsogwane was addressing a kgotla meeting in Mokobaxane on Friday. He said challenges in developing countries included lack of job opportunities, poverty and inequality.<\/p>\n

Therefore, he said government intended to use natural resources such as diamonds to develop the country and create employment opportunities. And, Mr Tsogwane said, the objective was to grow the economy through manufacturing, diamond value chain development, food production and cut reliance on programmes such as Ipelegeng.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the ploughing season is approaching, let us go and plough and produce food to reduce reliance on Ipelegeng programme,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Tsogwane implored residents to embrace mindset change in any discipline citing that mindset change should be applied in all aspects of life.<\/p>\n

He further said constitutional review remained one of the priorities, adding the next session of Parliament will discuss proposals to filter out all information or propositions that may be deemed irrelevant.<\/p>\n

One of the residents Mr Dikhutso Matekane, said the constitution should be amended such that murder convicts could face capital punishment, among other possible sentences.<\/p>\n

Mr Kelosetswang Lenkepile was for the idea that people with dual citizenship should not be recruited in disciplinary forces as that could jeopardize the country\u2019s security.<\/p>\n

Ms Gofamodimo Leemeletse proposed that specially elected MPs should not be appointed ministers.<\/p>\n

Ms Leemeletse proposed that dual citizenship should be allowed in Botswana, but was against appointment of a person with dual citizenship in leadership positions or discipline forces.<\/p>\n

She also stated that chiefs should not be allowed to participate in politics. <\/b><\/p>\n
