Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Minister for State President, Mr Kabo Morwaeng who is also MP for Molepolole South has told residents of Kotolaname in Kweneng District that their ward has been transferred from Thamaga\/Kumakwane to Molepolole South effective next general elections.<\/b><\/p>\n

He was addressing kgotla meeting in Kotolaname on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The transfer of the ward comes after the completion of delimitation exercise. However, the MP said politicians were not part of the decisions to transfer the ward. He said the ward, name Kotolaname\/Losilakgokong would be the ninth in Molepolole South.<\/p>\n

With regards to the number of constituencies, Mr Morwaeng said they had been increased fro 57 to 61. Still at the meeting, Mr Morwaeng said the banning of importation of some horticultural products was meant to develop horticultural sector and create jobs as well as reducing the import bill. The same moratorium was placed on school uniforms which stand to benefit local tailors.<\/p>\n

Minister Morwaeng also commended President Mokgweetsi Masisi for the successful negotiations of the De Beers and government deal saying it showed that the President wanted Batswana to benefit from the countrys\u2019 natural resources. Concerning development projects, the MP said most projects were either delayed or deffered due to COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine\/Russian war.<\/p>\n

MP Kabo Morwaeng said the global economy went through a recession and also experienced a high inflation rate. following the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia\/Ukraine war<\/p>\n

\u201cOur priority was to save lives by providing vaccines and these came at a higher cost,\u201d the minister said as funds meant for developments were channeled towards fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Morwaeng said during the pandemic the country experienced lockdowns and shut its borders which negatively impacted trade and some businesses collapsed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not making an excuse but we had a massive economic challenge,\u201d he said.Mr Morwaeng, said the country has experienced a high rate of inflation due to the Russian-Ukraine war.<\/p>\n

The war has affected global trade as some commodities such as wheat and oil prices sky-rocketed due to shortages.<\/p>\n

He further told the residents that following the Constitutional Review Commission, the White Paper would be tabled in Parliament during the November sitting.<\/p>\n

On other issues, he said Kweneng District Council has been divided into three districts in an effort to improve service delivery through decentralisation.<\/p>\n

The districts are Kweneng, Mogoditshane\/Thamaga and Letlhakeng district Councils.<\/p>\n

The minister said all these have District commissioners and council secretaries.<\/p>\n
