Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Lack of maintenance in schools across the the country is a serious concern to government and needs to be addressed without delay.<\/b><\/p>\n

Acting President Mr Slumber Tsogwane said this Wednesday after a tour of Masunga Senior School boys and girls hostels that were gutted by fire recently.<\/p>\n

He said maintenance was lagging behind despite the fact that funds apportioned for maintenance of schools\u2019 returned to government coffers unused year after year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry of Finance has gone on record that there is money to carry out school maintenance,\u201d he stated. As an interim measure, the Acting President promised to give Masunga Senior Secondary School blankets, mattresses and toiletries to mitigate the dire situation the boarding pupils found themselves in following the fire incidents.<\/p>\n

Also, Mr Tsogwane appreciated good Samaritans who had come to the aid of the school and donated blankets, a gesture of goodwill he said had to be commended.<\/p>\n

He learnt also from the school management that the final report on the cause of the fire was not out yet. Mr Tsogwane also extended his visit to Maruje III Junior Secondary and Masunga Primary schools respectively.<\/p>\n

He promised the school management at Maruje III secondary school that he would take up the long-standing issues of shortage of classrooms and malfunctioning sewage system with a view to addressing them.<\/p>\n

The Acting President also assured the school that the issue of shortage of classrooms and small staff room at Masunga Primary School would be attended to.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Acting President went to Mulambakwena to offer condolences to the Chigocha family who lost a loved one in a road accident on Saturday.<\/p>\n
