Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Community leaders have a role to ensure culture is preserved and passed to the younger generation, as culture is paramount in giving people identity and dignity.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cEvery tribe is recognised by its culture and language and culture is the thread that binds the people,\u201d Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Sethabelo Modukanele said thus at a cultural day at Kajaja village on September 21, adding that as such government was committed to supporting the unique and diverse cultures that made Botswana.<\/p>\n

The cultural day was organised by a cluster of three villages of Kajaja, Ikoga and Sepopa in the Okavango District.<\/p>\n

Modukanele applauded the cluster made of Wayeyi, Bahambukushu and Basarwa for celebrating their varied culture as one, saying it was a symbol of unity.<\/p>\n

In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Tholego Nyame of Sepopa said the cultural event was on its second year and rotated among the three cluster villages.<\/p>\n

Kgosi Nyame said through the event, the tribes found in those villages showcased their diverse cultures and the aim was to ensure children participated in the ceremony.<\/p>\n

When giving objectives, Kgosi Keneilwe Pinagare of Kajaja said the event was purported to revive and preserve culture.<\/p>\n

Kgosi Pinagare said the most important aspects of culture were language, attire and food.<\/p>\n

The cultural festivity showcased the Wayeyi and Bahambukushu traditional dances of Seperu, Thiwinji and showcased the bojale from the two tribes as well as lecturers on hunting and botsetse.<\/p>\n
