Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Additional works for resealing and road markings of Selebi Phikwe-Serule road still await funding.<\/b><\/p>\n

The works which should have been completed by February 2020 having commenced June 2019 still await revision of new completion date, Bobirwa District Council chairperson Mr Kgomotso Mmereki has said.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a council sitting Monday, Mr Mmereki said although at 98 per cent, the road project had overspent due to under budgeting, especially of the road markings.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdditional works are still waiting for funding. The tender of the said project is at the evaluation stage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The chairperson said procurement of some road projects in his district was ongoing. Such projects included dry grading of the Motlhabaneng turnoff to Point Drift which is at adjudication stage.<\/p>\n

Also, there is the resealing and marking of Damochujenaa access road and construction of Mmadinare-Robelela road which is at evaluation stage.<\/p>\n

Additionally, there is block-paving of Moletemane access road which is reportedly at 93 per cent. The block-paving road project, carried out by Aggre Holdings, started in June 2019 and was expected to be completed in June 2020.<\/p>\n

However, due to challenges experienced such as non-approval of the determination of claims and variations by the employer, the road has taken three more years to complete.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, the variation order has been approved, and the contractor is to remobilise after being paid fuel escalation,\u201d said Mr Mmereki.<\/p>\n

The council chairman also informed councillors that the Department of Roads had since requested and was awaiting response for cancellation of the tender for Zanzibar-Lekkerport dry grading and drift installation along Tobane-Tshokwe road in order to do them in-house.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe dry grading of Lepokole turn off-Robelela road has been at arbitration since June 19, 2023, at the Public Procurement Tribunal to solve a complaint with a bidder,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
