Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Construction of Kauxwi clinic, which was among projects behind schedule in the Okavango District, is complete and will be handed over in the near future.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was revealed by the Okavango District Council chairperson, Mr Gaopalelwe Ronald when opening the full council meeting recently.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is commendable that the clinic is finally complete since it was among projects behind schedule in the district. Twenty-six potter cabins have been procured and handed over to be used for staff accommodation for the clinic,\u201d Mr Ronald said.<\/p>\n

On other issues, he told the council meeting that following the boycott by nurses to dispense medication, pharmacists had been employed to assist in some clinics in the Okavango District.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pharmacists are placed under some villages and are to carry outreach to the nearby villages in the same cluster.<\/p>\n

The pharmacist for Etsha 13 will assist Etsha 1, the pharmacist for Nokaneng will assist Habu, the pharmacist for Qangwa will assist Xaixai and the pharmacist for Gumare will assist Tubu,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Mr Ronald said a total of 14 pharmacists had been employed for JPK Primary Hospital for clinics in the western and eastern Okavango such as Shakawe Cluster, Sepopa Cluster, Ngarange Cluster and Beetsha.<\/p>\n

In his comment to the chairperson\u2019s address, nominated councillor, Ms Keokeditswe Rangosa applauded government for employing pharmacists.<\/p>\n

Ms Rangosa, however, suggested that pharmacists should work on rotational basis like nurses do to serve people at all times. Councillor for Nokaneng\/Habu, Mr David Kubi also thanked government for employing pharmacists at clinics and hospitals.<\/p>\n

However, Mr Kubi said it was not enough since one pharmacist was to serve two places, which was a challenge in the Okavango District because some villages were far-off.<\/p>\n

\u201cGovernment should deploy at least two pharmacists per station or they should work on rotational basis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
