{"id":35599,"date":"2023-10-01T16:37:18","date_gmt":"2023-10-01T16:37:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/?p=35599"},"modified":"2023-10-01T16:01:50","modified_gmt":"2023-10-01T16:01:50","slug":"vp-visits-masunga-sss-learners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/vp-visits-masunga-sss-learners","title":{"rendered":"VP VISITS MASUNGA SSS LEARNERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Empathy remains a critical aspect in connecting and supporting those faced with adversities.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This was emphasised by the Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane on September 29 when he visited Masunga Senior Secondary School learners, whose hostels were recently gutted by fire, to offer them the much needed support as well as comfort those who had lost their belongings.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Tsogwane delivered, as a compassionate gesture, new mattresses, blankets, comforters, sheets, pillows, school bags and toiletries, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice President urged the learners to show understanding and compassion to one another as they rebuilt their lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmpathy is extremely important in a time of crisis like a fire destroying learners\u2019 belongings because it can provide a sense of connection and support. By understanding the experiences and feelings of others, learners can build relationships and create a sense of community, even in the face of adversity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said empathy was also a skill that can be learned and developed while through interactions with others, learners can learn to recognise and understand different perspectives and experiences and respond with compassion and understanding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy practicing empathy, learners can become more resilient and better able to cope with challenges,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Tsogwane also emphasised the need for hard work and dedication in achieving academic success.<\/p>\n<p>He also encouraged the learners to make the most of their educational opportunities and invest in their future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPutting more effort and energy into your studies will ultimately determine your future outcomes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Masunga SSS head, Mr Jabulani Munyere told the Vice President that the school was still awaiting a report to determine the cause of the fire and extent as well as the cost of damage.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Munyere said the population of the learners both at the boys and girls hostels also increased dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>He said the hostels accommodated 1 252 learners, which was an advantage to their learning.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the school had been receiving condolences and comfort from the district leadership who had also donated blankets and toiletries to the affected learners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis shows that Batswana are indeed a compassionate society.
