Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy District Commissioner for Letlhakane, Mr Ewetse Selelo, has implored registration clerks to practice impartiality and neutrality in registration of voters. <\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Selelo said this during the training session of Boteti West constituency registration clerks and supervisors held in Rakops on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

He urged them to adhere to public service principles at all times, advising them to ensure they registered voters at their principal place of residence.<\/p>\n

\u201cAvoid participating in politics, declare interest if there is any, be selfless and serve the public without fear or favour,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He informed them that they were going to be part of the country\u2019s history by helping to ensure that Botswana\u2019s electoral process conformed to high electoral standards, and delivered free and fair elections.<\/p>\n

Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) trainer, Ms Kesego Sekgwama, implored officers to uphold confidentiality and be impartial.<\/p>\n

Ms Sekgwama explained that a voter could register at any polling station within a polling district.<\/p>\n

She added that challenges encountered during previous voter registration included registering outside official times and places as well as absentee registration and intentional misplacement of voters. Ms Keolebogile Koosimile, also IEC trainer, said the responsibility of a registration clerk was to register voters within their respective polling stations.<\/p>\n

Ms Koosimile said their responsibility was also to ensure that voters who presented themselves for registration possessed all that was required for registration.<\/p>\n
