Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Minister of Tourism, Philda Kereng, recently undertook a significant mission to Duke\u2019s Camp in the heart of the Okavango Delta, aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and showcasing Botswana\u2019s natural beauty. Her visit, a precursor to her participation at the recent Tourism Expo Japan (TEJ), conveyed a powerful message to the international community, emphasizing Botswana\u2019s rich landscapes and its unwavering commitment to preserving its natural resources.<\/b><\/p>\n

At the TEJ, the Minister attended a Business to Consumer Exhibition, which proved to be a valuable platform for connecting directly with local operators and exploring the full spectrum of offerings within the Botswana Tourism stand. The Minister graced the event along with Ambassador of Botswana in Japan, Major General (Rtd) Gotsileene Morake.<\/p>\n

The Business to Consumer (B2C) platform allowed prospective Japanese tourists to secure travel deals, enabling them to engage with local operators, gather information about Botswana as a destination, and explore a variety of travel packages.<\/p>\n

The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) played a pivotal role in promoting Botswana at the TEJ. The organization, mandated to market and position Botswana as a premier destination of choice, hosted a meet and greet for local operators and leading figures. This gathering provided a unique opportunity for local operators to network with key players in the industry, fostering collaboration to enhance the overall tourism experience in Botswana. Kereng, during her visit to Japan, engaged in bilateral meetings, including a crucial discussion with Kuniharu EBINA, President of the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA). The meeting revolved around Botswana\u2019s new model for tourism, which aims to expand offerings beyond the diverse wildlife experiences to include Cultural Tourism, allowing tourists to engage in local cultural activities, such as food festivals and tours of historic monuments. Agro Tourism was also highlighted as a unique aspect of Botswana\u2019s Tourism Model, offering tourists an educational glimpse into Botswana\u2019s farm life and countryside.<\/p>\n

The Minister presence at TEJ underscored Botswana\u2019s commitment to its tourism industry and the significance of international tourism events like the Tourism Expo Japan. Her engagement with local operators demonstrated the government\u2019s support for the tourism sector and its recognition of the importance of international collaboration in promoting sustainable tourism practices.<\/p>\n

As she toured the Botswana Tourism stand, she received valuable feedback from local operators and provided guidance on enhancing and promoting their packages to Japanese tourists.
