Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has paid tribute to the late Ms Ellen Vanqa, describing her as a pillar of strength, a loving and motherly figure, and a disciplinarian.<\/b><\/p>\n

Ms. Vanqa, born on August 4, 1936, died on October 26, after a long illness.<\/p>\n

The President visited the family at their residence in Gaborone North on Thursday to offer his condolences and appreciation for her service to Botswana.<\/p>\n

President Masisi, who was also a former science student of Ms Vanqa and also a close family friend, expressed his heartfelt condolences and recognised her dedication as a teacher in various schools across the country.<\/p>\n

He also acknowledged her and her late husband, Professor Temba Vanqa, who was a former lecturer at the University of Botswana, for their decision to settle in Botswana from South Africa, and contributed to the nation while also engaged in pastoral farming.<\/p>\n

President Masisi expressed his gratitude for their selfless service to the country, acknowledging their role in shaping the success of many individuals.<\/p>\n

He emphasised the importance of honoring their legacy and ensuring they never regretted their decision to come to Botswana.<\/p>\n

Regarding the deceased\u2019s ailments, her son, Mr Loyiso Vanqa, mentioned that her health had deteriorated since 2020 following the passing of her spouse.<\/p>\n

She passed away at Princess Marina Hospital, where she was admitted.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the family, Ms Priscilla Noah expressed gratitude to President Masisi for his condolences.<\/p>\n

She further mentioned that the President considered the Vanqas as his own parents, having been taught by them, both during secondary and university education.<\/p>\n

Ms Noah praised the people of Botswana for their friendly and hospitable nature and urged them to continue extending warm reception to others.<\/p>\n

Ms Vanqa was on Friday at Phomolong cemetery in Gaborone. <\/b><\/p>\n
