Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Specially elected Member of Parliament, Dr Unity Dow has announced that she has joined the Botswana Congress Party (BCP). <\/b><\/p>\n

She made the announcement in Parliament, Wednesday when responding to State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA).<\/p>\n

\u201cFor those wondering what I am doing next, I take this opportunity to announce my membership of the BCP and my intention to offer myself for election during the 2024 general elections,\u201d the former Botswana Democratic Party member told Parliament.<\/p>\n

Addressing issues raised in the SONA, Dr Dow said she was concerned by the economy of the country, arguing that the strategy to reform, transform or diversify the economy was not well defined.<\/p>\n

She said the public also needed assurance on how the recently launched Temo Letlotlo would benefit them.<\/p>\n

She said while the country continued investing in coal, focus should be on harnessing the energy from the sun which the country was endowed with.<\/p>\n

She said the country could be the hub of solar energy for the region.<\/p>\n

The MP further said it was important for Botswana to use its strategic location in the heart of Southern Africa by positioning itself as a clearing house for goods headed into the rest of Africa.<\/p>\n

On the human\/wildlife conflict, Dr Dow said it was possible to manage the conflict in a way that benefited both.<\/p>\n

She said the health sector was generally faced with challenges and welcomed the development to construct a health facility in Rasesa for the Kgatleng district.<\/p>\n

However, she was sceptical as to whether it would be possible to construct the facility basing on the budget estimates of P400million projected in 2017 when the plan was still being mooted.<\/p>\n
