Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Members of the Botswana Diamond Manufacturing Association (BDMA) have been advised to promote diamond education through the beautiful stories of Botswana diamonds.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking during a panel discussion hosted by BDMA at Molapo Showcase in Gaborone on Friday, International Analyst and influencer of the diamond industry Mr Avi Krawitz said such stories if shared through different media platforms could encourage the youth to venture into the industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese stories could help the youth in Botswana to be inspired and want to venture into the diamond industry. They may be interested in joining the industry by working in factories or becoming involved in the business or dealer side\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Krawitz said there was need to increase activity within the diamond industry for growth adding that the dealer market was at the core of the industry.<\/p>\n

Business Development Manager at KGK Diamonds Botswana, Mr Siddarth Gothi who also moderated the session, emphasised the importance of changing the narrative surrounding diamonds. He said it was crucial for the general public to also have knowledge about the processes and products involved in the diamond industry. He proposed that introducing diamond education in schools could inspire school children to consider pursuing a career in the industry in the future adding that ‘this called for mindset change.’<\/p>\n

BDMA treasurer, Mr Riki Solanki, discussed the association’s vision and mentioned that they started the year with 22 members and now have 29 registered members. He expressed their commitment to continue growing and strengthening each year while exploring the limitless possibilities for the diamond industry in Botswana.<\/p>\n

Mr Riki Solanki acknowledged that the diamond industry in Botswana has had a significant socio-economic impact on the country’s economy through its investments.<\/p>\n

He said the industry employs over 4 200 members while BDMA had been actively involved in collaborating with government in policy decision-making to ensure the sustainability of a strong midstream diamond industry.<\/p>\n

Mr Solanki proudly highlighted that Botswana and its citizens have acquired expertise in cutting and polishing diamonds, which has laid a solid foundation for a thriving economy built on diamonds.<\/p>\n

He said in his State of the Nation Address, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi placed emphasis on the minerals and diamond sector which continues to be a crucial supporter of Botswana’s economy.<\/p>\n
