Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>There is a need for government to refurbish the Dibete police station to ensure that it operates optimally. Member of Parliament for Shoshong, Mr Aubrey Lesaso indicated during his debate of the State-of-the-Nation Address on Wednesday that this was important because the police station was central and served three districts. <\/b><\/p>\n

He said ever since its construction, the station had been in need of a refurbishment, which was never done.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe police station serves Kweneng, Kgatleng and the Central districts, but its current state has disabled it from fully serving these areas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said enabling the station to operate optimally would also help reduce the rate of stock theft in all three districts and help address the habit of bad driving along the A1 road.<\/p>\n

On other issues, Mr Lesaso, requested government to upgrade Letselente, near Mosolotshane into a settlement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe area has about 150 residents, but special recognition could be made as it has been done with other areas that were recognised even without meeting the 500 threshold population required for recognition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the residents were currently buying water from a private individual at very high costs as they were not provided for by government.<\/p>\n

The MP also requested government to assist Basarwa who were relocated to Kalamare from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.<\/p>\n

He said they were not aware that upon relocation, they would lose their status as remote area dwellers, which meant that they could no longer benefit from Remote Area Dwellers Programmes<\/p>\n

He appreciated the planned construction of a 53-bed hospital and pavement of internal roads in Shoshong, saying such would bring along some economic benefits to residents.<\/p>\n
