Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Bobonong solar power plant provides 3 megawatts, energy fed into the Botswana Power Corporation public grid<\/b><\/p>\n

Botswana is making progress in the development and integration of solar energy sources into the energy mix, an official said on November 24 during the commissioning of the 3 MW Bobonong solar photovoltaic plant.<\/p>\n

David Kgoboko , Managing Director of Botswana Power Corporation , said the plant was Botswana’s largest solar photovoltaic plant and part of Botswana’s commitment to a balanced and sustainable energy mix. sustainable.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are making progress with our new energy mix initiative ,\u201d said Mr. Kgoboko during the commissioning ceremony which took place in the village of Bobonong, in the east of the country.<\/p>\n

The solar plant was built by Sturdee Energy , a South African company that develops, owns and operates renewable energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa, such as solar photovoltaics, wind power, hydroelectric power and battery storage.<\/p>\n

The energy mix initiative arises from Botswana’s National Energy Policy, which aims to create an energy system that ensures a secure and reliable supply of modern energy services for all sectors of the economy and significantly reduces related air emissions to energy by 2040.<\/p>\n

For years, Botswana has relied on the use of coal as its main source of energy because it is abundant, Kgoboko said, adding that there is however a need to encourage the adoption of greener sources due to advances in renewable energy technologies and global concerns about the negative impact of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n
