Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana is one of many African countries feeling the brunt of climate change from the worst drought in decades to multiple wild fires. The country’s minister of Environment and Tourism Philda Kereng spoke to CGTN on its expectations from COP28.<\/b><\/p>\n

PHILDA KERENG Botswana Minister of Environment and Tourism “When we are here at the COP we are looking at solutions for all these problems, we are looking for solutions that will help us mitigate what we are losing in terms of land degradation, loss of livestock. We live by cattle, goats and stuff like that.<\/p>\n

“The loss and damage discussions are critical for us. How this fund, now that it has been endorsed, how is it going to be delivered timely, accessibly and how we are all going to benefit from it.<\/p>\n

“We middle income states suffer between two levels where sometimes we are not considered for funding. Food security is going to be a problem for us and livelihoods in general.<\/p>\n

“It’s heating up towards the end. At ministerial consultations I am part of the Africa group of negotiators with other ministers. It’s very hectic, it’s a common thing, but we never lose the hope and we don’t want to lose the battle.<\/p>\n

“We are talking about different aspects of global Stocktake, where do we say we are and we are talking about financing where it should come from and stuff like that.”<\/p>\n
