Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Massive winds have swept through the villages of Tsamaya, Mabudzane and Siviya on Thursday night, leaving scores of people homeless.<\/b><\/p>\n

In an interview after visiting the affected villages on December 15, North East District Commissioner (DC) Mr Gobe Macha said his team would assess the affected areas and provide necessities such as accommodation and other priority needs.<\/p>\n

Tsamaya Primary School, local businesses such as hardware, retail stores, homesteads and other structures were affected as the winds blew away their roofing.<\/p>\n

At the time of going to press, affected villagers were still having their properties being either affected or damaged as torrential rains were still pouring.<\/p>\n

Mr Macha stated that his office was still awaiting report of the affected homesteads, businesses and other structures to be forwarded to headquarters for assistance.<\/p>\n

One of the affected residents of Tsamaya, 64 year-old Mr Petrus Moesi said the ordeal happened around 7pm on December 14 evening while they were at home.<\/p>\n

\u201cI may need food as the combo I bought recently was affected and soaked in the water,\u201d he said adding that all bedding and other clothing were also affected by the rain.<\/p>\n

Mr Moesi said although roofs were carried away, they were left with one room in which he and other three people managed to squeeze themselves.<\/p>\n

North East District DC\u2019s office, disaster committee, social workers and all village structures are on alert to provide all possible assistance to assist those affected.<\/p>\n
