Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Cooperation in areas of climate change and sustainable development is a priority in the China-Botswana partnership.<\/b><\/p>\n

China\u2019s Ambassador to Botswana, Mr Wang Xuefeng, said this at a handover ceremony of a meteorological mobile station valued at P31 million to the Department of Meteorological Services on December 21.<\/p>\n

Handing over the donation, Mr Wang said the multi-satellite data mobile receiving and processing system would assist Botswana government in its efforts to address climate change challenges facing the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a firm belief that the meteorological mobile station would provide valuable support to Botswana in environmental monitoring, agricultural production, and prevention of extreme climate disasters. These efforts would aid Botswana in achieving its goals of sustainable environmental development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Wang said the Chinese and Batswana shared a common desire for a beautiful environment and a better quality of life and thus emphasised the importance of Botswana as a significant country in Africa, a true friend and good brother to his country.<\/p>\n

He added that China was also ready to provide new opportunities for Botswana through Chinese modernisation and practical cooperation in an in-depth and substantive way.<\/p>\n

Receiving the equipment, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Ms Grace Muzila appreciated the support to address climate change, provided under the South-South Cooperation.<\/p>\n

Ms Muzila said the equipment was manufactured in China and shipped to Botswana with full funding from the Chinese Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur team of engineers, information technology personnel and meteorologists have completed onsite training provided by trainers from Space star Technology in China, ensuring their ability to independently operate the system,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Again, she said the equipment would be used for detecting and monitoring extreme or hazardous weather events.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe system will be fully utilised for drought monitoring, fire detection, land surface temperature monitoring, as well as aerosol monitoring,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

She thanked China for support, emphasising the importance of maintaining collaboration between the two countries to further advance Botswana’s progress.<\/p>\n

She acknowledged the positive impact of the partnership, particularly in enhancing connectivity in Botswana, driving economic growth and contributing to the overall development of the country.<\/p>\n
