Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Mahalapye Central Police have praised the behaviour of New Year\u2019s Eve revellers in their policing area, as crime was generally low with just one case recorded, which involved a bar fight.<\/b><\/p>\n

Contrary to what they had expected, police say the festivities went along peacefully without serious crimes such as murder, rape and others. Mahalapye Central police station commander, Superintendent Boitshepo Modongo, said the single incident recorded involved a fight in which the victim was stabbed in the leg. “Bars closed early around 10pm and we managed to control the crowds whose behaviour was excellent. \u201cWe only recorded one case of grievous bodily harm where a 32-year-old man was stabbed with a sharp object at a local bar when bars were about to close.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was stabbed in his leg and investigations are ongoing to establish what the fight was really about. \u201cWe have since launched investigations to locate and arrest the known suspect who escaped the scene following the incident,” she said. Modongo said the victim is currently getting assistance and is in a stable condition at Mahalapye Hospital.<\/p>\n

“Unlike the previous years, we did not record serious crimes like murder, rape and robbery and we would like to thank Mahalapye revellers for their excellent behaviour,” Modongo said.<\/p>\n
