Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The contribution and efforts by elderly citizens to get Botswana where it is today will never go unnoticed.<\/b><\/p>\n

These were the sentiments by Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Mabuse Pule during an event to donate food hampers to the elderly, by the Ntsabane Foundation in Boatle on January 4.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur elderly deserve these acts of generosity, for they are therapeutic and entertaining at the same time. It is an acknowledgement of their contribution, dignity, needs and wisdom, as well as our pledge to rededicate our efforts in ensuring their wellbeing,\u201d said Mr Pule.<\/p>\n

He said local government ministry was entrusted with providing welfare services to citizens, the elderly included and acknowledged the event for addressing the needs of the elderly, some of whom are vulnerable and disadvantaged.<\/p>\n

To Caring Touch Ladies, who donated the hampers in support of Councillor Keabonye Ntsabane\u2019s GBV Association, the minister said the donation went to well-deserving citizens.<\/p>\n

They deserve our love and all the care as they are invaluable sources of wisdom, knowledge and experience and have much to contribute towards peace and sustainable development, Mr Pule said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe bear witness to a community taking the lead in executing social responsibility by investing in the elderly. This noble act is in line with President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi\u2019s Reset Agenda, which appeals for change. Let us change the way we look at things,\u201d said Minister Pule.<\/p>\n

Touching on gender based violence, family disputes, abuse and the use of drugs and alcohol, Mr Pule said these were issues of national concern by which the elderly were affected either as victims or perpetrators.<\/p>\n

Kgosi Mosadi Seboko said the donations would come in handy.<\/p>\n

She requested government to look into ways through which it could ease the financial burden on elderly citizens.<\/p>\n

Founder of Ntsabane Foundation, Ms Keabonye Ntsabane said the event permitted the elderly a chance to relax and chat with their peers in a conducive atmosphere.<\/p>\n

She also thanked Mr Tshepho Keakile, owner of Escapade by James Garden and Tarshy\u2019s Garden, for allowing them to use their facilities at no charge as a way of giving back to the community.<\/p>\n

Ms Kelebogile Motaung, one of the 80 beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the donors.<\/p>\n
