Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Plans are underway for farmers in Okavango to host the first-ever field day by end of March.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was revealed at a preliminary meeting held on Wednesday at Gumare kgotla.<\/p>\n

Northwest Integrated Farmers Association (NIFA) vice chairperson, Mr Ledikile Lenkokame, said the association came up with the idea to hold a field day like other regions that have successful farmers\u2019 day events.<\/p>\n

Mr Lenkokame said that the plan was to host the event at a farm between Nokaneng and Gumare on the proposed date of March 28.<\/p>\n

Public Relations and Marketing Manager of Botswana Meat Commission (BMC), Ms Shadi Linchwe, said the company, which is the main sponsor of the event, held the event in high regard as the first of its kind in the district.<\/p>\n

Ms Linchwe said their wish was to have a successful annual agricultural event in the Okavango, as it happens in other districts.<\/p>\n

She said BMC would bring other stakeholders on board to ensure the field day\u2019s success.<\/p>\n

BMC Maun Plant Manager, Mr Ishmael Ramorula, urged farmers to be fully committed to the preparations of the event for it to succeed.<\/p>\n

Mr Ramorula assured farmers that BMC would support them to realise their dream.<\/p>\n

The farmers in attendance expressed happiness about the event and the support from BMC as the main sponsor.<\/p>\n

One of the founding members of NIFA, Mr Onneile Tsele, explained that the association was formed around 2010 in Maun and was extended to include other areas such as Gumare.<\/p>\n

Mr Tsele said that the association believed in having smart partnerships with other stakeholders within the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

Another member Mr Frank Mafela said that the event would include all farmers associations in the North West such as NIFA, Nhabe Farmers Association and Haina Veldt Farmers Association.<\/p>\n
