Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Police say they are yet to make arrests following an incident in which a young woman was stabbed in the eye by her boyfriend. It is alleged that the 27-year-old man on Wednesday afternoon stabbed his girlfriend, 24, in the eye with a sharp instrument as the partners were taking their child to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.<\/b><\/p>\n

Francistown Central Police Station Commander, Mogomotsi Kesupile, revealed that the severity of the attack necessitated immediate medical attention, and the woman was rushed to Nyangabgwe. \u201cDue to the specialised nature of her injuries, she was referred to a specialist in Serowe,\u201d he told. However, Kesupile said they have not arrested the suspect despite being aware of his involvement in the incident. \u201cHe (the boyfriend) had to prioritise the care of their ill child, which delayed his arrest. The public should be rest assured that investigations are ongoing and that every effort will be made to bring the perpetrator to justice,\u201d Kesupile revealed.<\/p>\n

He added that the medical professionals at Nyangabgwe and the specialist in Serowe were working tirelessly to provide the necessary care and support and noted that the victim is recovering in Serowe. Kesupile further disclosed that the physical and emotional pain inflicted upon the victim cannot be overstated. He said it is a reminder of the importance of addressing issues and ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals, particularly within intimate relationships. “This incident serves as a call to action for society as a whole. It is important that we stand united against domestic violence and actively work towards preventing such acts from occurring,” said Kesupile.<\/p>\n
