Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Confusion regarding the recently completed delimitation commission exercise has been identified as one of the challenges faced by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) during voters\u2019 registration, according to Ms Itumeleng Gabaake, the Principal Elections Officer for Francistown.<\/b><\/p>\n

During the interview, Ms. Gabaake mentioned that Francistown has three constituencies with new borders established last year, leading to a lack of awareness among some voters about these changes.<\/p>\n

To prevent voter confusion, she stated that registration officers were equipped with clear locations and maps to assist voters in determining their registration areas.<\/p>\n

Additionally, election officers guided voters through a series of questions to ensure they registered at the correct polling stations.<\/p>\n

Ms Gabaake also highlighted the challenging weather conditions, as some of the tents used for registration were flooding. She emphasised the need to relocate and maintain the tents to ensure they remained habitable.<\/p>\n

In an effort to encourage voter turnout, she noted that public service announcements were being used as reminders for voters, while stressing the importance of educating and engaging young people to register and vote.<\/p>\n
