Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has commended the government and people of Uganda for their significant contributions to the human resource development of Botswana. <\/b><\/p>\n

During a meet and greet dinner on January 20, for Batswana residing in Uganda, President Masisi expressed gratitude to Ugandans for their efforts in empowering Batswana in various professional capacities.<\/p>\n

President Masisi expressed gratitude specifically toward Mr Joseph Lukoma and Justice Sam Awich, for their contributions to Botswana\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged the contribution of Mr Lukoma, who had served in Botswana for many years and was honoured at the dinner.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that Botswana was prepared to grant him citizenship, highlighting his impactful role in Botswana and even noting that his grandchildren bore Setswana names.<\/p>\n

President Masisi expressed his appreciation, describing Mr Lukoma as an exceptional teacher, a passionate accountancy trainer and a chartered management accountant with extensive experience in financial accounting, financial management, and project planning.<\/p>\n

For his part, Mr Lukoma thanked President Masisi for the opportunity given to First Lady, Neo Masisi, to develop into the person she is today. He reminisced about teaching and mentoring Ms Masisi during her formative years, expressing his pride and excitement about her current role as Botswana\u2019s roving ambassador.<\/p>\n

\u201cNeo was an excellent student and it was easy to teach her. I met her just after she completed her senior secondary school level from Gaborone Secondary School and was recruiting students to the Anglo-American Training School. I wanted first class students, and there she was,\u201d said Mr Lukoma<\/p>\n

President Masisi also praised Justice Sam Awich for his service in Botswana\u2019s judiciary between 1976 and 1992, having held positions as a state counsel, senior magistrate, and deputy registrar of the High Court and Appeals Court.<\/p>\n

Justice Awich\u2019s wife, Ms Joyce Awich, expressed gratitude to President Masisi for warmly visiting them in Kampala and conveyed the appreciation of Batswana living in Uganda for the visit.<\/p>\n

President Masisi informed Batswana living in Uganda about the Non-Aligned Movement Summit and the G77+China 3rd South Summit, highlighting the significance of these events concerning geopolitics and development values that Botswana aligns with.<\/p>\n

He encouraged Batswana living abroad to exercise their constitutional right to register and participate in this year\u2019s gen-eral elections.<\/p>\n
