Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines (LDM) have donated 20 layer chickens to Malatswae clinic to combat malnutrition among children.<\/b><\/p>\n

This donation was accompanied by chicken feeds, an extended poultry house, cooking area, industrial pots, chicken medication, cooking gas, and food hampers.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the project handover in Malatswae recently, Mr Maruping Mogae, the acting senior manager at Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines, highlighted the longstanding relationship between the mine and Malatswae clinic, with a previous donation of 20 layer chickens in 2021 as supplementary feeding for malnourished children.<\/p>\n

Mr Mogae explained that the project was made possible by donations from LDM employees and the mine, amounting to a total of<\/p>\n

P28 000.<\/p>\n

He said that the donation showed LDM\u2019s commitment to fulfilling its Corporate Social Investment through sustainable community projects and expressed confidence that the project would significantly contribute to providing essential nutrients for malnourished children.<\/p>\n

Additionally, he said the project would aid the clinic in addressing children\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n

Mr Mogae urged the community to safeguard the project to ensure its success.<\/p>\n

Ms Fidelia Mpesu from the Serowe\/Palapye District Health Management Team (DHMT) acknowledged the impact of LDM\u2019s support, stating that the percentage of malnourished children at Malatswae clinic had decreased from 12 to 10 per cent.<\/p>\n

She expressed hope that with the current donation, the clinic would meet the Ministry of Health\u2019s malnutrition target of 2.9 per cent.<\/p>\n

Malatswae Councillor, Mr Bernard Kenosi, expressed gratitude to LDM and its employees for their selfless act of benevolence, especially in light of the current high cost of living.<\/p>\n
