Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has extended his appreciation to the media for their crucial role in disseminating information and shaping public awareness on a wide range of issues. <\/b><\/p>\n

During a cultural event called \u2018meet and greet with media\u2019 in Kasane on Tuesday, where members of the media from Botswana and Zambia were present, the President Masisi highlighted the pivotal role played by the media in keeping the public informed about current affairs and allowing them to form opinions on various matters.<\/p>\n

He said such interactions were essential for fostering a relaxed and informal atmosphere for media professionals to engage with him and his ministers partaking in the discussions of bilateral relations between Botswana and Zambia.<\/p>\n

President Masisi also emphasised the significance of the media in upholding Botswana\u2019s democracy, noting that the media operated freely without hindrance.<\/p>\n

When asked about the success of the Kazungula Bridge in addressing illicit financial flows, the President said that the Kazungula One Stop Border Post (OSBP) had improved document processing capacity through ICT, leading to more accurate and effective procedures beneficial to revenue authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough the OSBP we are able to process more accurately, effectively and reliantly for the benefit to our revenue authorities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The implementation of new systems has also helped in tracking individuals and financial transactions, potentially reducing the reliance on cash, he said.<\/p>\n

Btv\u2019s general manager for news and current affairs, Mr Buyani Zongwani, said President Masisi recognised media\u2019s importance by showing interest in meeting with the media following his return from the 3rd South Summit of the G77+ China.<\/p>\n

Mr Zongwani highlighted the meeting as a platform for the media to interact with the President and engage in discussions ahead of the official visit of Zambia President Mr Hakainde Hichilema to Botswana.<\/p>\n
