Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>In an unprecedented event, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has revealed that a total six voter registration books were stolen last week from a registration clerk.<\/b><\/p>\n

Earlier this publication carried an article revealing that the registration books were stolen from an officer based in Marobela and the IEC has now confirmed that.<\/p>\n

In their statement released today, the IEC said of the six stolen voter registration books some were yet to be used for their intended purpose. The IEC also revealed that the books were stolen when thieves broke into the concerned registration clerk officers\u2019 car and made away with her bag too.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe registration clerk had in her possesion six voter registration books of which two were fully used and had names of registered voters,\u201d read the statement.<\/p>\n

The statement further read; \u201cThe third book had only two registered voters whilst the rest of the books were unused.”<\/p>\n

Still on the matter, the IEC said a total of 52 voters had been affected by the theft incident and appealed to the affected voters to report back to their place of registration for assistance.<\/p>\n

The IEC has also called for calm saying the missing books will not have any effect on the registration outcome at the polling station, district or constituency.<\/p>\n
