Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Informal sector and public health bye laws have been reviewed to create an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth, the Mayor of Francistown, Mr Godisang Radisigo, said.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at an entrepreneurship workshop in Francistown on Tuesday, Mr Radisigo said it was against the background that the Local Economic Development (LED) was established to stimulate investments that would lead sustained growth in the local community, aligning such with the city\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n

Mr Radisigo said for LED to realise its intended purpose, there was need to engage the community in consultative meetings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should adequately mainstream gender, youth and environmental issues, and it should be realistic and implementable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that his council collaborated with organisations such as Local Enterprise Agency (LEA) and Special Economic Zones (SEZA) to highlight on priority objectives such as citizen empowerment and development of supportive infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Mr Radisigo underscored the importance of partnerships and stakeholders\u2019 collaborations, saying it enabled pooling of resources and generation of diverse ideas.<\/p>\n

The Acting Deputy City Clerk, Ms Ogomoditse Royal, said the review of the developed strategy encompassed issues of investment by the private sector, enterprising strategy for council and economic empowerment initiatives.<\/p>\n

She said the LED strategy was aligned to the city\u2019s development strategy thereby emphasizing the need for collaborations at local level to create the necessary linkages and synergies for sustainable local economic development.<\/p>\n

Responding to the initiative, Mr Kabelo Motingwa, a Francistown businessman said there was a need to develop the city to a state where it could attract different investors.<\/p>\n
