Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>With a few days left before the voter registration exercise comes to an end, PRESS contacted some members of the public to share their insights about the importance of registering to vote. <\/b><\/p>\n

Tumelo Lebona from Tlokweng shared his belief in the significance of registering to vote to secure a future that aligns with his vision and his family\u2019s.<\/p>\n

In an interview, he said nearly 20 members of his family had already registered.<\/p>\n

He said he recognised the power of voting and the impact it could have on decision-making.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou gain the ability to reflect on your choices and the impact it has on your life. Whether it\u2019s evaluating the effectiveness of past administrations or determining the best path forward,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n

Lebona also said voting empowered citizens to actively participate in shaping their community\u2019s future, therefore, he urged everyone to register to vote.<\/p>\n

Lebona also said registering to vote was an act of responsible citizenship.<\/p>\n

He said it signified an individual\u2019s commitment to actively engage in the democratic process and contribute to the betterment of their community.<\/p>\n

At Broadhurst in Gaborone, 32-year-old Galaletsang Dikuelo advocated youth participation in politics.<\/p>\n

She said it was important for the youth to vote because by so doing they would be voicing out their concerns, which could bring about change.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery vote counts and contributes to a collective voice that holds leaders accountable for their actions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She also youth vote could provide an opportunity to directly influence decision-making. \u201cBy participating in the electoral process, young people can elect representatives who genuinely understand and prioritise their needs,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

As for an elder, Ms Lesego Pakati from Broadhurst, she said even though she had registered to vote, she was just doing it because it was her culture to do so.<\/p>\n

She said she had unemployed children sitting at home.<\/p>\n

Hopefully her vote, she said, would somehow make a difference and help create employment for the youth.<\/p>\n
