Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Molefi Senior Secondary Schools dining hall has received a P400 000 facelift following months of closure.<\/b><\/p>\n

The school\u2019s cafeteria was closed last April due to a falling ceiling and peeling wall paints that posed a danger to pupils and staff members.<\/p>\n

Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale ordered the refurbishment as a matter of urgency last year following revelations that the school dining hall was dilapidated.<\/p>\n

Kgatleng region superintendent of works, Mr Thabo Mabilo said the refurbishment entailed replacing the roof and painting the walls.Mr Mabilo said he was pleased that the company that was awarded the project delivered it within budget and that pupils and teachers were cooperative during construction, adding that the dining hall was now a friendly place to eat.<\/p>\n

Minister Molale said the Molefi dining hall project should be an example that it was possible to turn an outcry into a opportunity.<\/p>\n

He said some public schools were in a deplorable state and needed maintenance to avoid further damage.<\/p>\n

He added that emergency maintenance was allowed where there was dire need.<\/p>\n

The minister emphasised the importance of cyclic maintenance of all buildings, adding that the decentralisation policy was intended to make things easier at district level.<\/p>\n

For his part, Mochudi East MP, Mr Mabuse Pule told the minister that most schools in Kgatleng were in a bad state.<\/p>\n

He said ablution blocks were closed due to no maintenance and that teachers\u2019 houses were dilapidated and lacked basic equipment.<\/p>\n

Mr Pule also said primary school pupils had resorted to relieving themselves in urinals as toilets were not working.<\/p>\n

He implored district managers to work together to ensure that schools were safe for learners.<\/p>\n
