Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Suspended private security companies are expected to cease operations immediately and resume after the suspension has been lifted.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was shared by Chief Inspector and Licensing Officer in the Department of Private Security Companies Licensing Board, Mr Tshenolo Ratshosa in an interview on Friday.<\/p>\n

He noted that when a security company is suspended while having an active contract, such contract should be determined by the terms and conditions between the service provider and the procuring entity.<\/p>\n

Mr Ratshosa\u2019s sentiments follows recent suspension of 11 security companies by the Private Security Services Licensing Board for non-compliance with default judgements and settlement agreements from the department of labour or court judgements and writ of execution from courts of law.<\/p>\n

However, three have since complied and have been reinstated while eight remained suspended.<\/p>\n

He said the suspended security company which defies the decision of the Board and continues to carry business while on suspension could be fined P10 000 for operating without a valid licence while there was no legal action that the board could take against the procuring entity.<\/p>\n

\u201cAction is taken against the licensee,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the Private Security Companies Licensing Board mandate included receiving applications for licences, verifying information submitted with application and issuance of licences in accordance with Act.<\/p>\n

The board is also tasked with setting minimum standards for training of security service providers and security guards as well as ensuring compliance with the set standards.<\/p>\n

It also encourages and promotes efficiency and responsibility within the private security industry, set a code of conduct for private security service providers and ensure compliance and promote the protection and enforcement of rights of security guards and other employees in the security industry.<\/p>\n

Private Security Companies Licensing Board, also ensures compliance with existing legislation by security service providers through active monitoring and investigation of the affairs of security service providers through protecting the interests of users of security services and receive reports of inspections undertaken by inspectors.<\/p>\n
