Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>There is need to raise awareness on the importance of green building, which has been described as an approach to designing, constructing and operating buildings that promote environmental responsibility.<\/b><\/p>\n

It is against this background that Climate and Life Company in partnership with Earth Grades has organised Ngamiland property expo themed: Green Building for a Sustainable Future, as part of the efforts to promote adoption of green building.<\/p>\n

In an interview, event chief organiser also the managing director of Climate and Life Company, Mr Seloilwe Seloilwe said the expo, scheduled to run from February 28 to March 2 at Parkview hotel in Maun, was ideal considering that plans were afoot to transform Maun into a world class green city.<\/p>\n

Noting that the Maun Development Plan (2023-2043) aimed to position Maun as a world class destination with diversified tourism activities, he said it was important to sensitise communities and other stakeholders on the importance of green building.<\/p>\n

Explaining further the concept of green building, he said the goal was to minimise the impact of buildings on the environment throughout their lifespan. Green building, he said, entailed using materials and practicing construction in ways that benefit the environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy adopting green building strategies, we can maximize both economic and environmental performance as green construction methods can be integrated into buildings at any stage,\u201d he added. He said the most significant benefits could be obtained if the design and construction team took an integrated approach from the earliest stages of a building project<\/p>\n

Mr Seloilwe said the event thus targeted property developers, construction companies, potential home buyers, hardware stores, banks and architects among others where they would share information on their services and advise communities on how green construction could be achieved.<\/p>\n

The community, he said should understand that going green does not entail a compromise of their current lifestyle or comfort , adding that it came with the same durability and longevity as traditional building.<\/p>\n

Mr Seloilwe also emphasised the need to come up with ways to mitigate impacts of climate change which had become a real threat to mankind with scientific evidence progressively establishing its reality with a high degree of certainty.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, precautions measures, should be undertaken to manage the risks and uncertainties posed by climate change,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
