Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Ministry for State President is not aware of any court judgement ordering the payment of industrial class employees between 1992 and 1994.<\/b><\/p>\n

Minister Kabo Morwaeng has noted that between 1992 and 1994 industrial class employees were paid for days worked in a month while employees who opted for permanent and pensionable employment terms were paid a fixed monthly salary.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn effect, industrial class employees were not paid 22 working days, and by the same token, employees who opted for permanent and pensionable employment terms were not paid 20 working days,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Morwaeng also noted that if indeed there was a court judgement, the matter could have long been a subject for discussion between government and representatives of the industrial class employees at the National Joint Industrial Coordinating Committee (NJICC) for implementation.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that at the NJICC issues affecting former industrial class employees were discussed and amicably resolved to the extent that for cases of that nature, potential beneficiaries were identified and appropriately compensated or paid their dues.<\/p>\n

Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West, Mr David Tshere had asked the minister if he was aware that between 1992 and 1994 industrial class employees who were transferred to permanent and pensionable c ategory were paid 20 working days per month while other employees in the same category were paid 22 working days per month.<\/p>\n

MP Tshere further wanted to know if the minister was aware of a court judgement ordering payment of the differences and asked when the affected employees would receive their monies.<\/p>\n

He reminded the minister was aware that some of the beneficiaries were now pensioners while others were deceased, asking if such money could be claimed by the beneficiaries\u2019 children.<\/p>\n
