Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>A performance management system that was developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) is said to be aligned with the aspirations of Vision 2036 as well as the Reset Agenda.<\/b><\/p>\n

Launching the system in Gaborone recently, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Lemogang Kwape said it promoted progressive human resource development, digital transformation and the building of a knowledge-based economy.<\/p>\n

Dr Kwape said the system was also in sync with the national digital transformation strategy, which sought to position Botswana as a leader in the global digital economy.<\/p>\n

He added that he was pleased that his ministry was spearheading the system that embraced digital innovation and transformation as a tool of promoting effective service delivery.<\/p>\n

The, dashboard, he said also reflected the ministry\u2019s response to the call by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi to embrace transformation in his Reset Agenda.<\/p>\n

He said digitisation had the potential to unlock and enable high productivity, adding that the system would provide real time data and reveal how the ministry was progressing in executing its mandate.<\/p>\n

Dr Kwape further said the system took organisational performance to a different level and that it would inform on the progress of strategic objectives pertaining to the promotion of economic bilateral and multilateral relations.<\/p>\n

He said his ministry was committed to knowledge sharing and promoting one Botswana and was keen to share experiences and benefits of the system with the rest of government.<\/p>\n

Dr Kwape commended UNECA for rendering support to his ministry to develop the dashboard, promising that it would turn his ministry into a better performer.<\/p>\n

He noted that the UNECA partnership was extended to a number of projects which included SmartBots.<\/p>\n

He said the UNECA team provided technical expertise and capacity building towards establishing the system.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the director of African Centre for Statistics at UNECA, Mr Molla Asmare said the online platform would advance the country\u2019s digital agenda in line with the SmartBots initiative.<\/p>\n

He said the system would help management and staff of the ministry to monitor key performance indicators, and that it facilitated the setting up of performance targets.<\/p>\n

He added that the dashboard would assist to facilitate international collaboration and avoid using external tools for data and information management.<\/p>\n

Mr Asmare said the dashboard would identify gaps and inform on what must be done to enhance performance.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Professor Vasilis Koulolias, the presidential advisor on digitisation said SmartBots, the country\u2019s digital transformation strategy, was based on a digital economy framework and a digital governance framework.<\/p>\n

Prof. Koulolias said government had been working on a digital readiness framework and that it was witnessed during village connectivity.<\/p>\n

Without connectivity digital innovative projects such as the dashboard would not be possible, he said.<\/p>\n

He said the launch of the dashboard was part and parcel of the transformation agenda as it was a monitoring and evaluation platform.<\/p>\n

He said the dashboard provided real-time visualisation of data, therefore, informing better decision-making, transparency and accountability, efficiency and effectiveness as well as strategic decision making.<\/p>\n
