Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Gumare-Sepopa Road maintenance major works have commenced, first with shoulder widening.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was said by the North West region chief roads engineer from Department of Road Infrastructure Development and Maintenance, Mr Thomoitsile Moichubedi in a interview recently.<\/p>\n

The project, which was awarded to Bango Trading Company for the 70-kilometre Gumare-Sepopa section at a cost of over P343 million was expected to take 18 months after contract signing between the<\/p>\n

Ministry of Transport and Public Works and the company on June 11 at Gumare Kgotla last year.<\/p>\n

Work included shoulder reinstatement and asphalt overlay of Sepopa-Gumare Road as well as access roads to Etsha 1, Etsha 6, Etsha 13 and Ikoga.<\/p>\n

Mr Moichubedi explained that delay in commencement of the project emanated from challenges to source gravel material and mining rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have since managed to do environmental assessment and fulfilled mining requirements,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said after shoulder widening, the project would proceed to processing of the base course and finally surfacing (tarring the road).<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the absence of challenges which may interfere with the project like rain and shortage of material, the plan is for it to be completed by February next year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Mr Moichubedi said the Sepopa-Mohembo Road which was awarded to Rockefeller Civil Engineering (Pty) LTD had not yet started major works since they were still in the process of obtaining environmental and mining rights.<\/p>\n
