Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZA) says the master plan for the construction of the Francistown special economic zone is at an advanced stage.<\/b><\/p>\n

A board member of SEZA, Ms Chabo Mbikiwa, told journalists during a media tour of the Francistown special economic zone on Tuesday that all the necessary preparations to start infrastructure development have been completed.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is in place and we are at a point where it is a case of shooting into the infrastructure and the financing of the project,\u201d Ms Mbikiwa said.<\/p>\n

Ms Mbikiwa said Francistown\u2019s special economic zone was strategically located near key transportation hubs.<\/p>\n

She said the zone is near the Phillip Matante International Airport, the A3 (Francistown-Maun) and A1 (Ramatlabama-Ramokgwebana) roads, which provide access to markets in the northern corridor.<\/p>\n

She said this strategic location was a major selling point for businesses looking to set up in the zone.<\/p>\n

The zone also offers benefits such as a skilled workforce and a stable political climate. In addition to its proximity to transportation hubs, Francistown\u2019s special economic zone is also located near mines.<\/p>\n

She said the location of Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines in the west, and the Mupane mine in the east allows for the easy transportation of goods and materials to and from the zone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe zone\u2019s location makes it an ideal location for businesses that serve or rely on the mining industry,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Another board member, Ms Taboka Malwapeng, explained that Francistown is the economic hub of the mineral rich northern part of Botswana.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithin a radius of 200 kilometres sits bustling mining operations,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Ms Malwapeng explained that to investors, the Francistown special economic zone is the gateway to markets in the north and further afield into Africa.<\/p>\n
