Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Retired soldiers can play a vital role in the military by offering insights and advice that can help in improving the military\u2019s effectiveness and efficiency.<\/b><\/p>\n

2Brigade Group Commander, Brigadier Kagiso Kgaswanyane said this in an interview at the commemoration of fallen heroes\u2019 day in Francistown on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout their contribution, the military would be at a disadvantage. Retired soldiers play an important role in the military,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Brigadier Kgaswanyane emphasised that retired soldiers served as a foundation of knowledge, experience, and wisdom for the current generation of soldiers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey can pass on their knowledge of military strategy, tactics, and history, and they can provide valuable insights into how the military has evolved over time. They can also serve as role models and mentors for younger soldiers, helping to instill the values of discipline, courage, and patriotism,\u201d said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that retired soldiers have a unique perspective, as they can see things from the outside and are not constrained by any military system. This will bring fresh ideas and insight to the military and help it to be more efficient and effective,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He said active soldiers were often more concerned with defending the military and its policies and did not seek advice from those outside the system.<\/p>\n

Brigadier Kgaswanyane sees this as a problem as it can limit the military\u2019s ability to improve.<\/p>\n

One of the retired soldiers, Colonel Anderson Moalosi also indicated that retired soldiers were a vital part of the military\u2019s foundation and their contributions should not be underestimated.<\/p>\n

Col. Moalosi, who joined the military in 1974, stated that retired soldiers often had a unique perspective on the military, since they had the benefit of hindsight.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey can see things more clearly, without the bias or blind spots that come from being immersed in the system. They also have a broader perspective, since they have experienced both the military and civilian life,\u201d said Col. Moalosi.<\/p>\n
