Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Donations received by the Office of the President such as blankets and food hampers from the private sector are donated to deserving members of the public.<\/b><\/p>\n

Minister of Agriculture, Mr Fidelis Molao said the donations were not given according to constituencies, but were given to members of the public at kgotla meetings or similar public gatherings and events.<\/p>\n

Mr Molao was answering on behalf of Minister for State President. He said the location of such gatherings may fall within any of the constituencies and that the blankets were given at Batswana irrespective of party affiliation.<\/p>\n

Minister Molao further said the donations were carried out in public and that such level of transparency did not equate with any form of insinuated theft.<\/p>\n

The MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister why donations made to the Office of the President such as blankets and food parcels from the private sector were only given to constituencies under the ruling party, and whether the practice was not flawed or tantamount to theft.<\/p>\n
