Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Lack of resources and financial distress have resulted in most of 2022\/23 financial year Moshupa District Council projects being paused.<\/b><\/p>\n

Delivering his speech recently during a full council meeting, Moshupa District Council chairperson, Mr Sonny Phiri said frequent breakdown of equipment had an impact on the implementation of the projects.<\/p>\n

However, he said the district was working round the clock to come up with various initiatives to increase revenue so as to augment the already low Revenue Support Grant.<\/p>\n

He implored members to work together with project officers to ensure that projects were sped up.<\/p>\n

Mr Phiri also called for team work, stating that it was the only way to transform the lives of the communities, adding that it was imperative to ensure that the inequality gap was closed through economic and social inclusion.<\/p>\n

The chairperson further said the construction of Moshupa hospital was nearing completion as it had reached 78 per cent completion stage.<\/p>\n

Mr Phiri also decried the overwhelming debt of Village Development Committees (VDCs) rentals, saying it was one of the elements that impeded the growth of VDCs. He confirmed that the entire district was owed rental arrears amounting to P212 437 as at January.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Department of Community Development has engaged the Magistrate Court in collaboration with the Bye-Law Enforcement department.<\/p>\n

This was sought after realising that summons at a kgotla route took long for debts to be cleared,\u201d said Mr Phiri.<\/p>\n

With regard to the introduction of the Temo Letlotlo tractor scheme, he said, \u201cWe have been seeing a lot of farmers showing interest in acquiring tractors.<\/p>\n

A total of 16 farmers have been recommended for purchase, eight approved for purchase while two farmers have confirmed buying.\u201d<\/p>\n
