Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana national athletics team is in good shape to win medals at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.<\/b><\/p>\n

Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has assemble an arsenal of 23 athletes who have proved overtime that the nation can rely on them.<\/p>\n

The athletes have been doing well in different meets staged by the country\u2019s athletics governing body, and it remains to be seen how many medals they will win for the country this time.<\/p>\n

The national team\u2019s assistant coach, Meleko Ndolo said all the athletes had reported for camp, adding that the mood was high and athletes were much prepared to represent the country with pride.<\/p>\n

He said currently the team was free from injuries, thanks to all medical personnel who ensure that the team was in good health.<\/p>\n

Ndolo said he was also happy that there were new faces in camp, that of Ernest Kumevu, Omphile Seribe, who will be competing in 400m and 4x400m and Nancy Budzani who will be in the 100m track.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough they are new in camp, they have been made to feel comfortable by senior athletes, and they have long settled, and they are looking forward to the Games,\u201d he said. Ndolo said he was happy that Kumevu, who had already qualified for the World Athletics Junior Championships to be held in Lima, Peru in August, would use the Games to prepare and to help him to gain the big stage confidence.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the competition, which was an Olympic qualifier, would help some of the athletes to hit a qualifying mark. \u201cFor us the Games are very important,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe want our athletes to qualify for the Olympics, and those who have already qualified can use it as part of their preparations.\u201d<\/p>\n
