Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The design component of the construction of internal roads in Mabutsane is expected to be complete in July, Chairperson of Mabutsane District Council, Mr Kgopolo Setammere-Ramosesane has informed a full council meeting Monday.<\/b><\/p>\n

The project, which is implemented through the Development Manager model as part of the district\u2019s Transitional National Development Projects (TNDP), entails the design, construction and supervision of 25km internal roads and storm water drainage and solar street lighting in Mabutsane.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe design component of the project started in January and is planned for completion in July. To date, milestones achievements include; submission of the inception report to local catalyst project team, collecting manuals and regulations and past designs for similar projects and mapping of the proposed roads,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He noted that the project would proceed to tendering for construction once the report was approved and a subsequent site survey was undertaken.<\/p>\n

On other TND projects, Mr Setammere-Ramosesane said the construction of a new primary school in Sese was expected to be complete in August.<\/p>\n

He noted that currently, academic structures and staff houses were at roofing stage.<\/p>\n

However, he explained that the construction of the semi-detached house which forms part of the project was behind schedule due to queries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorth noting is that one of the components of the project, a semi-detached house, has been delayed due to appeal.<\/p>\n

We are hopeful that the matter will be resolved soon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he noted that major maintenance of academic facilities at Thankane Primary School was almost complete, while maintenance of staff houses was at 85 per cent.<\/p>\n

In Mahotswane, he noted that roofing and internal plastering of a classroom block had been completed and procurement for finishes was ongoing.<\/p>\n

On other issues, the chairperson informed the full council meeting that relocating Kutuku and Kanaku pupils from the Mabutsane RADS hostel was successful, following completion of classroom blocks at Kutuku.<\/p>\n

He said though classroom blocks at Kanaku primary school were not complete, an interim plan was in place cater for the pupils from the hostel.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first phase was implemented in the last financial year where learners from Kutuku moved to stay with their parents following completion of classroom blocks at Kutuku Primary School.<\/p>\n

The last phase has been completed and pupils from Kanaku have also been moved to stay with their parents.<\/p>\n

However, the classrooms are not yet complete but the pupils are able to attend lessons following temporary measures, which have been instituted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Mr Setammere-Ramosesane expressed disappointment at the delay experienced with constituency projects for the 2023\/2024 financial year, which he attributed to the late approval. He said the projects were currently at various stages of evaluation, while procurement for the Mokhomma-Samane road spot improvement was delayed due to appeal by bidders.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project for gravelling of Sese is at the final stage of evaluation, moreover tenders for spot improvement of Mokhomma-Thankane road and Mokhomma-Samane road were closed on the 23rd February 2024 and are still at evaluation stage. Procurement for the latter got delayed due to complaints by bidders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
