Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Inspector Thabologo Elias of Masunga Police Station has warned motorists against disregarding specifications of car lights as prescribed by the Traffic Act.<\/b><\/p>\n

He cited that the head lamp should be clear without fancy colours such as purple, blue or any other illuminations.<\/p>\n

He was speaking in Mosojane on Tuesday during a roadside educational campaign conducted by the Department of Road Transport and Safety in collaboration with Botswana Police Service and the District Road Safety Committee in preparation for the Easter long weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cBar lights (sport light) are a course of concern at night along all major roads,\u201d he said, adding that motorists should discontinue the use of such lights as it was contrary to the Traffic Act and were likely to cause accidents when applied to oncoming traffic.<\/p>\n

He advised that reverse lights should also be clear, break light be red while indicators should be orange.<\/p>\n

Inspector Elias stated that the three-day campaign would focus on educating drivers against risky behaviours on the road and their consequences.<\/p>\n

Mr Elias said the campaign targeted such vices as speeding, driving while under the influence of alcohol, distracted driving, driving while fatigued, non-use of safety belts, driving without driver\u2019s licence, driving unfit vehicles and failure to obey other traffic laws and regulations.<\/p>\n

He said as the local road was new with some parts still under construction, they found it paramount to undertake such educational campaigns and create awareness to all road-users to be always alert and avoid accidents.<\/p>\n

He promised that the campaign team would regularly patrol Masunga-Tshesebe road to drive away livestock from the road.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe campaign team will also close the gates, take statistics of livestock found inside the fence and where possible record livestock brands for future consultations with cattle owners,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
