Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Dikoloti Classics in partnership with Botswana Greyhound Association (BGA) successfully delivered the Dikoloti Easters Dog Race in Lorwana in a bid to promote sport tourism.<\/b><\/p>\n

Over 40 dogs from around the country took part in the competition, which was made up of seven categories.<\/p>\n

In an interview, Mmathethe-Molapowabojang MP, Dr Edwin Dikoloti said the event had the potential to positively contribute to the economy and improve people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n

This event, he said brought people together and kept them away from various social ills, especially the youth.<\/p>\n

BGA public relations officer, Mpho Mmono said they were happy with the overall delivery of the event, adding that it had grown over the past four years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number of competitors from around the country has grown and the standard of our dogs has also improved, looking at the times they were registering during races,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Mmono explained that the event was a source of entertainment for Batswana during the long Easter holidays.<\/p>\n

He said the event was also a source of income for different people, such as dog breeders, trainers and the business community in the area as well as Feed manufacturers.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of BGA members are just doing this for the love of dogs, it brings joy seeing your dog performing on track,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, under the Open males category, a dog named Just do it from Mandla Kennel scooped position one followed by Rambo Jet also from Mandla Kennel while Phakalane owned by Matlhalerwa Greyhounds finished position three.<\/p>\n

The open females category was won by Delta Fire owned by Trod Kennel, Blue streak from Matlhalerwa Greyhounds finished in second position and Supreme Base owned by Mandla Kennel scooped position three.<\/p>\n

The other categories were open crosses male and female, under 18, 15 and 12.<\/p>\n

Dr Dikoloti had sponsored the race with P30 000, which was used for prize monies while Agri Feed sponsored the winners with Dog feeds.<\/p>\n
