Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>In the wake of a tragic bus accident that claimed the lives of 45 Batswana in South Africa (SA), President of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi has issued a stern warning against the way the news of the accident broke out on social media platforms.<\/b><\/p>\n

Addressing Molepolole residents, Masisi expressed deep sorrow for the 45 lives lost and also highlighted in his address how people were inhumane and insensitive by rushing to break news on social media. \u201cI see it fit to rebuke some of the things. I want us to all respect the families that have lost family members in that accident. Is it okay for us to report first the passing of these 45 souls on social media as if they were just animals?\u201d he asked. He added:\u201cThat is not our culture in Botswana to do things that way and we believe that in Africa too, it is not a sign of respect to the families,\u201d queried the president.<\/p>\n

In his address the President indicated that he is set to lead an entourage of government officials to South Africa where they will visit the crime scene to appreciate the whole horrendous outcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will soon go to Limpopo where the accident happened after the arrangements have been made because I have been waiting to show my face this side first. During this visit, we will thank the SA government of how they have been swift with this together with the South African Police Service and others,\u201d he remarked. Masisi further elaborated that the trip will be an opportunity for him to strengthen the relations between Botswana and SA to continue working together. He further assured Bakwena that government will incessantly support families that have been affected by the tragedy until the last day. He advised them to be patient with the repatriation process as identifying the dead bodies is still on going.<\/p>\n
