Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Tonota District faces pressure to deliver services with limited resources, says Shashe West Member of Parliament.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cWith the recent upgrading to a fully-fledged district, Tonota is now under pressure to deliver essential services to its people,\u201d said Mr Fidelis Molao when addressing the district leadership on April 17.<\/p>\n

Also a Minister of Agriculture, Mr Molao said while the upgrade was a cause for celebration, there were some challenges in particular, limited resource and budget constraints.<\/p>\n

He however, encouraged the people of Tonota District to be hopeful that the new chapter would result in positive changes and improvements in their lives.<\/p>\n

Minister Molao emphasised the importance of effective leadership in navigating the challenges faced by Tonota District and urged the leadership to work tirelessly to ensure that the necessary resources and infrastructure were in place, to enable service delivery.<\/p>\n

That in place, Mr Molao said the district could successfully overcome challenges and fulfill its promise to its people.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith dedication, hard work, and a commitment to serving the people, Tonota District can become a shining example of progress and prosperity in Botswana,\u201d said Mr Molao.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Tonota District chief education officer, Ms Wananani Gunda said following the fire incident that destroyed Nata Senior Secondary School, the Ministry of Education and Skills Development had announced that Shashe River School would begin admitting pupils from Nata catchment area.<\/p>\n

Ms Gunda informed the meeting that the ministry was working tirelessly to ensure that all necessary arrangements were in place to facilitate the transition.<\/p>\n

She said Nata residents could rest assured that the ministry was doing everything in its power to support their community during this difficult time.<\/p>\n

At the same meeting, Francistown based senior wildlife officer, Ms Irene Boitshwarelo explained that unlike other parts of the country, North East District had limited land but a huge elephant population.<\/p>\n

She said many elephants were migrating from Zimbabwe, further straining the already scarce resources.<\/p>\n

Ms Boitshwarelo suggested increasing the hunting quota for elephants in the district to ensure that the population was properly managed, the resident\u2019s safety was prioritised and the environment was not adversely affected.<\/p>\n
