Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Faith-Based Organisations have assured President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi of their unwavering support to the course of resuscitating the social values of the nation and advancing government\u2019s development agenda. <\/b><\/p>\n

President Masisi and leaders of religious denominations in Botswana met in Tlokweng yesterday, where Botswana Council of Churches\u2019 Reverend Gabriel Tsuaneng expressed gratitude for the President\u2019s efforts of reaching out to religious leaders to share ideas on issues of national interest.<\/p>\n

He said the council of churches was aware of the report pronouncing decline of social values and urged stakeholders to adopt an effective and resilient response model to the challenges raised in the document.<\/p>\n

Rev. Tsuaneng appealed to the church community to rise up to the challenge and devise strategies to counter the decline in moral values of the nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s resuscitate the wisdom and teachings of our fore bearers. Let\u2019s reflect on lost heritage that the generation of today is unable to transmit. Let\u2019s work hard to restore all that for our future generations and for the greater good of our nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Rev. Tsuaneng appreciated President Masisi\u2019s move to challenge the faith sector to get on the right path, saying the call was received with open arms. Bishop Moratiwa Tshukudu of Evangelical Fellowship of Botswana also expressed gratitude for the political leadership\u2019s efforts in restoring the dignity of the nation.<\/p>\n

He said President Masisi\u2019s efforts were the correct call to be answerable to God\u2019s calling and expectations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a responsibility to give what we have to our nation and to become what God wants us to be. We should be able to shape our children by what we are doing not saying. We promise to discharge our responsibilities as God\u2019s people,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He said all social ills that were reversing government\u2019s efforts in many socio-economic developments called for the church to rise and act to recuperate the dignity of the nation.<\/p>\n

For his part, Archbishop Onkemetse Sikwa of Promised Land of Christian Churches Association said government and the church were marching in the right direction.<\/p>\n

He said the church affirmed its commitment to defend the biblical faith and uphold the Setswana values.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe promise to do all we can within our midst and as different denominations you can count on us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Rev. Mpho Moruakgomo of the Inter Faith Community thanked President Masisi for making a clarion call to the religious community when the storm was raging.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe liken you to Habakkuk of our times. You established a vision that needs to be followed as we yearn to change our nation. We should ask questions such as \u2018where did we go wrong\u2019,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Reverend Moruakgomo promised President Masisi that the churches would stand in solidarity with government to resuscitate the dignity of the nation.<\/p>\n
