Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is attending to queries raised from the ongoing inspection of the general voters roll, particularly those that do not require court processes. <\/b><\/p>\n

A media release from the IEC says the commission has received two types of queries from voters; some bordering on information not captured properly while others related to the plot numbers that were provided by some of the voters when registering but missing from the rolls.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll these and others that the commission will receive during the inspection of the rolls are either a system problem or human errors,\u201d says the media release.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, it says such common errors occur when processing huge data such as the electoral data, hence the 42 days\u2019 period provided in the law for inspection of the rolls.<\/p>\n

Also, the commission says, only the objections pertaining to the inclusion of any voter\u2019s name in the constituency or polling district can be settled through a court process.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the circumstances, all our stakeholders are advised to remain calm and submit anything which requires amendment and or correction during the period appointed for the inspection of the rolls,\u201d the IEC adds.<\/p>\n

The general roll inspection started on April 22 and will end on June 2 in line with Section 15 of the Electoral Act.<\/p>\n

The IEC says the inspections of the roll gives voters an opportunity to check if their details were entered correctly, and if there is anything requiring amending or correcting.<\/p>\n

The inspection, the IEC adds, is a great opportunity for every voter to confirm the status of their registration and details, as well as objecting to the inclusion of any voter\u2019s name in the constituency and or polling district in accordance with the Electoral Act.<\/p>\n
