Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Founded with a vision to achieve a sustainable environment, Climate and Life in collaboration with Earth Grades, recently hosted Ngamiland Property Expo aimed to raise awareness about environmental opportunities and risks surrounding sustainable building not only in Botswana but across Africa and the globe.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, founder of the renowned environmental organization, Climate and Life, Mr Seloilwe Seloilwe, said that the primary focus of Ngamiland Property expo was to shed light on the importance of building a sustainable future through eco-friendly practices and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough proactive lobbying and policy influence, the organization seeks to shape a climate-friendly economy and drive the transition towards a green financial system in Botswana and Southern Africa,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said Batswana should consider their environment first before erecting any infrastructure hence they why last month lobbied to government that for every tree cut down, republicans should pay a fine of P10 that will serve as funds for planting more trees in the country as replacements of those cut down.<\/p>\n

Prof. Joseph Mbaiwa, a lecturer of tourism studies at the University of Botswana, encouraged Batswana to transition to solar energy as it was more environmentally friendly than other energy sources.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen erecting infrastructure it should be mandatory for each one of us to make room for the installation of solar panels as the energy comes directly from the sun and it does little to no harm to our environment compared to electricity we are using now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He urged Batswana to invest in their resources and build infrastructure that will stand the test of time and which will be also used for future generations.<\/p>\n

Senior Urban Planner at Department of Town and City Planning (DTCP), Mr Boitshepho Tshireletso, said for the country to achieve sustainability it needed to start right at the planning stage to ensure success.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the world grapples with the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, and a shared vision of creating a climate-friendly economy that benefits all, we ought to be poised to be a transformative people that sets the stage for a brighter, more sustainable future for Botswana, Africa, and beyond,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the climate will forever be changing thus the need to adapt and come up with mitigation means able to keep up with climate change challenges.<\/p>\n
