Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>A total of 150 breeding dairy goats and 92 breeding beef cattle arrived today from Australia. Receiving the consignment at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said the government was working towards making Botswana the backbone of quality breeding animals and germplasm sourced from world-renowned breeders.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a national project aimed at reversing the declining national heard and improving its genetic merit using Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) and genomics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The cattle compromise of the following breeds:<\/p>\n

Black Angus: 2 bulls and 6 heifers<\/p>\n

-Red Angus: 6 heifers<\/p>\n

Red Brahman: 1 bull and 5 heifers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Charolais: 5 heifers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Red Factor Charolais: 2 bulls and 4 heifers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Droughtmaster: 5 bulls and 13 heifers (1 heifer donated)<\/p>\n

\u2022 Limousin: 3 bulls and 4 heifers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Murray Grey: 1 bull (donated) and 3 heifers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Santa Gertrudis: 5 heifers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Simmental: 4 bulls (including calf) and 5 heifers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Shorthorn: 2 bull and 2 heifers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Wagyu: 4 bulls and 8 heifers.<\/p>\n

The dairy goats include the following:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Saanen: 45 Does and 5 bucks<\/p>\n

\u2022 British Alpine: 45 Does and 5 bucks<\/p>\n

\u2022 Toggenberg: 41 Does and 5 bucks<\/p>\n

\u2022 Nubian goats: 3 Does and 1 buck<\/p>\n
