Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The newly opened Tshidilamolomo police post is expected to reduce crime in the area. <\/b><\/p>\n

When officially opening the police post recently, Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi said cross-border crime such as peddling of drugs and livestock rustling normally done through ungazetted points of entry would be a thing of the past.<\/p>\n

Mr Mmusi said residents could now be at ease and access initiatives such as Thuo Letlotlo knowing that they would be safe together with their property.<\/p>\n

The minister told residents of Tshidilamolomo that even though government had taken services closer to them, they needed to work closely with law enforcement officers to win the fight against crime.<\/p>\n

He cautioned them against harbouring criminals, pointing out that the act was simply defeating the ends of justice.<\/p>\n

Mr Mmusi also spoke against gender-based violence, child and drug abuse.<\/p>\n

He pleaded with them to safeguard the building to enjoy the quality service rendered through the office.<\/p>\n

Furthermore he said together with relevant authorities, the ministry would ensure that the officers based at Tshidilamolomo had proper accommodation to diligently carry out their duties.<\/p>\n

He said in an effort to safe guard Batswana and their belongings, government had taken a decision to construct 25 police posts across the country, saying five of them would be in the Southern District.<\/p>\n

In her overview remarks the Police Commissioner Ms Dinah Marathe said that livestock theft and border jumping were some of the crimes rife in the area.<\/p>\n

She said the police post would help reduce crime between Botswana and South Africa.<\/p>\n

The district and village authorities applauded the move by government to construct a police post in the area.<\/p>\n

They pointed out that the move was long over due because amongst other things, they had sleepless nights due to livestock theft.<\/p>\n

On behalf of chief of Barolong, Kgosi Aobakwe Phetlhu said they welcome the idea by Minister Mmusi of setting up Special Support Group camp in their area to beef up the already existing structures of law enforcement.<\/p>\n
