Speaking at the well-attended Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) launch, party chairperson Vice President Slumber Tsogwane said residents should not trust opposition parties with their vote, as they are still busy with their internal fights. Launching party aspirant candidate, Onkemetse Mothei on Saturday, Tsogwane said the Botswana Congress Party president, Dumelang Saleshando has made things easier for them as he had explained that there is no candidate for opposition parties, therefore, they are the only alternative that people could trust. \u201cRona ga re ba dintwa. Ba le ga ba ise ba ipaakanye ka ba santse ba lwa. Ga bana go le neela nako ka gore ba mo dintweng tse di mashetla.<\/p>\n

Our manifesto speaks about you and me; we are the only party that is still determined to change the lives of Batswana. The rest is just a joke,\u201d Tsogwane said. “We have never turned our backs on residents of Bophirima ward, unlike opposition parties. For example, Ndaba Gaolathe had forgotten about you when he had internal party fights with Sydney Pilane. The Botswana National Front did the same while BDP came to rescue you.<\/p>\n

Indeed history speaks for itself; therefore we are hopeful that you won\u2019t disappoint us. Our candidate has been a chairperson for the Ward Development Committee (WDC) for this area for eight years. If you trusted her with the critical position of WDC, then you can still trust her with a council seat,\u201d Tsogwane said. For her part, Mothei said: \u201cI have been working well with the late councillor and have never betrayed my party. The years that I have worked as the area WDC chairperson have made me understand the needs and wants of this area.<\/p>\n

I was there for you when you faced hard times of floods. I am pleading with you to trust me with your vote.\u201d Another speaker, Pono Moatlhodi said what opposition parties know best is insults even at the parliamentary level or fighting among themselves. \u201cThe BDP is the only hope for Batswana. Our aims and objectives are to ensure that we deliver as per our promises.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t have time to waste and fight for unnecessary stuff like opposition parties do because we have clear mandates and policies. We are different from opposition parties because we are the ruling party. People expect a lot from us. If you vote Mothei, she will be able to work well with the MP so that they bring developments to this area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
